I am a composer, voice actor, and programmer from the Greater Pittsburgh Area. I specialize heavily in audio-oriented work but am a rather large fan of the field of science and mathematics.
My musical career got its kickstart when I learned alto saxophone about 13 years ago. 10 years ago I started into composing music. Since then, I have learned tenor and bari sax, piano, trumpet, french horn, clarinet, and trombone. I have performed with a dozen bands and pit orchestras, performed live on radio, and have written over 100 released works of music in the time since. Most of my work is now down from my personal studio. I have won awards in competitions at the national level in composition while in high school and have performed as first chair saxophone and keyboardist in several bands and orchestras.
Along with music, I am one of those crazy people who have learned to morph my voice beyond the point of it being recognizable as being human. I have been heard on radio and television along with several student films providing vocal parts, both cartoonish and announcing. I have been heard the most often on The LION 90.7fm (WKPS, State College) where I acted as the operations director and an on-air personality.
Computing and music have always been seen as complete opposites, but I find that they run closer than ever. I am a programmer who has worked with more programming languages than I can remember. I was even addicted enough to win an award in computer science at the Pennslvania Junior Academy of Science where I developed an operating system for the project. When I started at Penn State I was a computer science major in an accelerated track but found myself to fit in more with computer music. I still do programming and am currently studying iOS programming as a way of financing my music and paying off those pesky college loans.
FInally, before I go into other details, I should quickly address the scientific side of me. I tend to have the mindset of an engineer which has me look at each work of music I create as a logic problem rather than a creative work. This leads me to develop equations, formula, and other rules that mimic scientific principles that help me develop my works. Anyway, I am quite addicted to science and am one of the few you will run into that reads scientific journal publications for fun. I even have been known to utilize mathematics in other work so as to find the most efficient solutions.
Previous Employment and Education
I have been employed with Garritan Corp, a sample library developer from Orcas Island, WA as a web interface programmer. After Garritan, I worked for Walt Disney World Co. as a front-line cast member in Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s Park Operations area for over a year and a half. Between my periods at Disney, I worked at The LION 90.7fm (WKPS, State College) as the operations director where I oversaw day-to-day operation of the station. After Disney, I have done solar system installations in the local area through my family’s business and am writing music and programming from my home studio.
I started my college career at Penn State University University Park in the College of Engineering’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering. After participating in this program for a year and then venturing into an active music production studio again, I finally realized that I belonged more in the audio industry than the computer industry. After two years of attending Penn State, I have gone onto a temporary leave so as to get some work done with music and programming that I otherwise would have had time for while at college.
